VLP Partner Doreen Trujillo was quoted in Managing IP article regarding the expected nominee for Director of the United States Patent & Trademark Office – “‘Don’t be afraid’: counsel react to USPTO nomination.”
The article presented patent practitioners’ views on what impact they expect the nominee – John Squires — to have on patent practice, if confirmed. Practitioners shared their views on whether the nominee would be pro patent, what advice they would give to clients as a result of his nomination, and the impact budget cuts may have on his leadership. As the sub-title reflects, “[c]ounsel are expecting policies that are favourable to patent owners and say the fear factor over applying for patents may diminish.”
Doreen Trujillo was one of the practitioners expressing the view that the fear factor over applying for patents may be diminished. “Doreen Trujillo, partner at VLP Law Group in Pennsylvania, says that if the USPTO becomes more favourable to patent owners, firms would advise clients to file more . . . and ‘not be afraid’.”
Doreen continued by observing the following. “At least if there’s some stability and we’re not going to be facing regulations that could be very negative . . . I think it will encourage patent owners to invest and spend the money to get the patents.”
