VLP Partner Melissa Krasnow was quoted in the in Wall Street Journal Pro Cybersecurity article “House GOP Move to Block State AI Laws Sounds Cyber Alarms.”
This article discusses the House Energy and Commerce Committee draft legislation’s AI measure that would put a 10-year moratorium on states enforcing “any law or regulation regulating artificial intelligence models, artificial intelligence systems or automated decision systems.”
According to Ms. Krasnow: “Many broad state privacy and data security laws address aspects of AI issues, such as discrimination and automated decision-making….These laws also cover other matters like data breach, data security and privacy policies, among other things.”
Ms. Krasnow questions whether the federal bill can effectively roll back these laws, many of which are already in effect.
