On November 1, 2018, VLP Law Group presented a free webinar titled, “Update on Domain Name Disputes in a Post-GDPR World.”
In our March 2018 Webinar we warned of the coming global impact on domain name disputes when the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation or “GDPR” would take effect May 25, 2018. Nearly six months later, GDPR has proven its restrictions are a serious problem for brand owners and others who use the WHOIS database to identify malicious domains and research infringement claims. Although the GDPR creates obstacles for domain name enforcement, there are still options out there. Domain Dispute Resolution Practitioner, UDRP Panelist and Trademark Litigator Scott Austin returned to offer an update on URS and UDRP legal process under ICANN’s response to GDPR and best practices for protecting brands and disputing domain counterfeiters to enforce trademark rights.

About the Speaker:
Scott Austin is Board Certified in Intellectual Property lawyer and a partner in VLP’s Technology Transactions and Intellectual Property Practice Groups. In his 34 years of experience he has developed and litigated intellectual property interests for Fortune 500 and start-up companies. He has experience in domain name dispute resolution under ICANN’s UDRP procedures and DMCA takedowns of counterfeit websites and infringing content. He is one of seven members worldwide selected by ICANN for its Public Interest Commitment Dispute Resolution Procedure (PICDRP) Standing Panel as well as a member of the National Arbitration Forum panel of neutrals arbitrating domain disputes.
