Karen Kreuzkamp

Karen Kreuzkamp is a partner whose practice focuses on regulatory, compliance and enforcement matters for fintech, crypto and AI companies. She brings the enforcement instincts of a former SEC Senior Counsel who led one of the SEC’s most high-profile fraud investigations and the investigative judgment of a former Supervisory Assistant U.S. Attorney to her work advising venture-backed technology companies.

Karen advises companies on money transmission, AML/BSA and sanctions issues, securities and commodities questions, consumer protection risk and enforcement strategy. She works directly with product and executive teams to identify regulatory touchpoints early so that companies can move quickly while managing risk. She also helps companies build the playbooks, processes and infrastructure to respond effectively to subpoenas, regulatory inquiries and law enforcement requests.

Prior to joining VLP, Karen was Deputy General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer at Tools for Humanity, where she built the company’s regulatory and compliance function from the ground up. Before that, she led regulatory and compliance at OpenSea, one of the largest digital asset marketplaces in the world. Earlier in her career, Karen served as a Supervisory Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Northern District of California, leading a team of twelve prosecutors, and as a Senior Counsel in the SEC’s Division of Enforcement, where she initiated the investigation into Theranos and received the Enforcement Division Director’s Award for her work on investment adviser fraud cases.

Karen received her law degree from the University of Virginia School of Law, where she was Order of the Coif, and her bachelor’s degree from Emory University, where she graduated valedictorian of her class. She is based in the Bay Area, where she spends much of her free time at her son’s baseball games.
