Ben Carroll is a registered patent attorney and a Counsel in the firm’s Intellectual Property Group. He advises clients-ranging from individual inventors and VC-backed startups to premium mid and large-cap technology companies-on a variety of complex IP related matters, including: strategic planning, patent portfolio development and management, licensing, and various other intellectual property related matters. Ben has significant experience drafting and prosecuting both utility and design applications with the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
Ben has technical expertise in a variety of software and hardware technologies including: network security; machine learning; application performance monitoring; front and back-end software systems; blockchain; data management and processing; product configuration and design; embedded systems; consumer electronics; mobile applications; GPS mapping; optics; and digital electronics.
Ben earned is B.S. in Electrical Engineering at Utah State University and then proceeded to law school at the University of Utah S.J. Quinney College of Law. While earning his law degree, Ben participated in the Lassonde New Ventures program in assisting start-up companies to proceed to market. He also served as the president of the Student Intellectual Property Law Association. After law school and prior to joining VLP Law Group, Ben worked for several years at a Bay Area IP boutique.
