VLP Partner Michael Whitener participated in a recent podcast for Thomas Reuters Legal Current about “A New Era of US-EU Data Privacy.”
European Union privacy officials are considering whether to approve a new “Privacy Shield” arrangement with the US that would permit the flow of personal data from the EU to certified US companies.
The previous EU-U.S. “Safe Harbor” agreement was rejected by the European Court of Justice, due to U.S. surveillance programs that the EU regards as inconsistent with its data protection standards.
Michael discussed the many complex issues involved, including an explanation of the Privacy Shield and the possible impact on U.S. businesses.
