Kurt T. Mulville is a Partner in the firm’s Intellectual Property Practice Group. His practice is devoted to intellectual property, with a principal focus on developing and exploiting patent portfolios for start-up companies in highly competitive environments, such as biomedical devices, chemical formulation technologies, pharmaceuticals, and life sciences generally. He is also frequently retained to perform intellectual property due diligence analyses for venture capital, private equity, and large institutional investments, debt instruments and M&A. Kurt also has a unique practice forming and managing corporate structures using IP ownership and licensing for tax and operational advantages.

Kurt has Bachelor of Science degrees in Chemistry and Biological Sciences (1985) from the University of California Irvine, where he also conducted individualized research projects in nuclear and radiochemistry and the development of information transfer technology in the Soviet Union.

From 1985 to 1987, Kurt conducted pharmaceutical research and development at McGaw laboratories, Irvine, CA, where he developed novel chemical processes for the development of intravenous solutions used for total parenteral nutrition.

Kurt graduated from Loyola Law school in Los Angeles, CA as a scholarship recipient, and served as Editor-in-Chief of the Loyola of Los Angeles Law Review from 1989 to 1990. He also the Winner of the American Society of Writers on Legal Subjects Award (1990).

Prior to joining VLP, Kurt was a Partner at Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe and Lyon & Lyon.
