Dan Burke is a Founding Partner and has been a member of the firm’s Executive Committee since 2010. His practice focuses on the representation of emerging growth companies, entrepreneurs and investors in the areas of corporate, securities and M&A. He also has significant experience in the areas of technology and commercial transactions, intellectual property and employment and equity compensation matters.

Dan represents companies in all phases of their life cycle, from formation to exit. This includes representation of private companies in hundreds of financing transactions, including early-stage convertible debt and bridge financings, preferred stock financings and IPOs. Dan has also represented public and private companies in numerous M&A transactions, including mergers, stock sales and asset sales with private and public buyers. In addition to company representation, Dan has represented angel and venture capital investors in financing matters, and many high profile Silicon Valley entrepreneurs, including founders of Facebook and Instagram.

Prior to joining VLP, Dan was Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary of IPWireless, an international wireless technology company, where he managed all legal matters facing the company and, as a member of the senior management team, was a strategic advisor to management and the Board. Prior to joining IPWireless, Dan spent nine years in private practice, first at the international law firm of Latham & Watkins, and then at Venture Law Group, one of the premier Silicon Valley law firms. Prior to private practice, Dan spent a year clerking for a federal judge in Los Angeles.

We live near the beach, and one of my favorite activities during early summer mornings is to fish the shore for a species called corbina. They are an elusive species (commonly called a “ghost fish”) that live along the shore from Santa Barbara to Mexico. If you look hard enough, you can see them in the very shallow waters feeding on sand crabs. And if you work hard enough at it, you may be lucky enough to catch one.  All catch and release!
