CHARULATA PAGAR is a Partner and a member of the firm’s Executive Committee. She helps clients advertise, market, and promote their businesses in accordance with federal and state law. She also represents companies in government investigations of their advertising and marketing practices.
Char’s practice includes advising clients on general advertising law issues like claim substantiation, comparative claims, loyalty programs, environmental claims, rebates, coupons, price advertising, email marketing, telemarketing, text message marketing, negative option offers, and privacy, as well as assisting clients in structuring promotions such as sweepstakes and contests.
Char also regularly assists companies in negotiating and drafting agency-client, joint marketing, sponsorship, and talent agreements, representing clients in advertising-related investigations by the US Federal Trade Commission and State Attorneys General, and handling advertising challenges before the Advertising Self-Regulatory Council (National Advertising Division, Children’s Advertising Review Unit, National Advertising Review Board, Electronic Retailing Self-Regulation Program, and Online Interest-Based Advertising Accountability Program) administered by the Council of Better Business Bureaus.
Prior to VLP, she was government counsel at the US Federal Trade Commission, inhouse counsel at Sears, Roebuck and Co., and a partner at Manatt, Phelps & Phillips.
